Which I am sure shunting locals to go to porters lake rather than shopping in Jeddore. We need affordable housing and recreation facilities. Also seniors living facilities |

| 56 + | Musquodoboit Harbour | Resident | 5/5 | The Public Library, HRM Office and Gym are presently located in a privately owned building. They could be relocated within the School Building. There is presently a housing crisis....this building could be redesined to accommodate Seniors and a Long-Term Care Facility. |

| 56 + | Musquodoboit Harbour | Resident | 5/5 | The most immediate needs are for improved health care and elder care. The hospital is inadequate for our present requirements and needs more space. The Birches is also small with 2 residents per room in most cases and needs replacement. There have been plans for the Birches to be updated/replaced over the past decade or more and little or no progress has been made. There is much discussion at the federal and provincial level about improving health care and I believe this community has the potential to contribute to the solution in many ways, if adequate housing is provided. This will also be an economic advantage to the area providing employment and business opportunities. |
I think that the building would be best purposed as the new home of the Twin Oaks hospital, and as a temporary accommodation for patients awaiting a long term home space. The building has several pluses for this type of facility. It has a large field immediately adjacent to the building for helicopter landings. It has a large paved parking lot. It has 2 floors of space to accommodate the patients and staff. The inpatient rooms could be placed on the second floor, allowing for the emergency department and other service such as blood collection, x-rays and office to be on the first floor. Access for ambulances and life flight could easily be provided. In this province as I understand it , there is a problem with intermediate care. Patients are in hospital beds awaiting transfer to a long term care facility and such spaces are not readily available, resulting in hospital beds being occupied and creating massive problems in the inpatient floors. We could provide, possibly by subcontracting, multiple rooms for intermediate care, providing employment for staff and nearby medical help as needed. Additionally, the space of the present Twin Oaks could become a part of the Birches new home additional to their present area, gaining more space for them with the kitchen facilities and space for recreation and resident space immediately available. |
5/5 | I think that sections of the building and the services could be subcontracted and the government playing a partner in the provision of the medical needs. Should there be space, additional services could be accommodated such as doctor's offices, space for mental health and addiction services, therapists etc. to serve the entire eastern shore from one central location. | 3/5 | I think providing updates in the Cooperator, through elected politicians and social media would be very helpful. | Yes | To attend meetings and provide some feedback as needed. | I think this presents a golden opportunity for this community and we should take advantage of it as soon as possible, | David | Ingram | ingrams@eastlink.ca | 902 |

Physical recreation programs There could be space for a bigger gym than the one at the MH library. There could also be more recreational classes offered - dance classes, fitness classes, Example: a circus school in Halifax provides supportive social programming for youth at risk High ceilings in a gymnasium could allow for space for aerial acrobatics classes Arts programming - there could be painting, drawing, pottery classes There could be a wood workshop hosting classes, and have with tools available for community use |
4/5 | It could be good to have food services available on site. | 5/5 | Facebook posts Notices in the Cooperator Newsletter by email? |
Yes | I might be interested if there were an opportunity to teach fitness classes or art classes, or at least have some sort of space available to do those activities. | I used to teach aerial acrobatics at a Halifax circus school. I would be interested in doing something more locally if there were interest, but I have no idea about the suitability of the space, what sort of insurance would be required, or any other logistical details. I might also be interested in teaching art classes - maybe something involving sculpting with reclaimed materials. |

3/5 | Proper infrastructure investment and rationalization/maintenance of current infrastructure. We are still waiting for news regarding the redevelopment of the local LTC facility and have an aging community centre/sports facility, We also have a hospital whose emergency room is experiencing significant closures due to staff shortages. |
It is impossible to provide that information without a proper assessment of the building's current condition and its needs for basic building integrity. This is essentially a chicken-and-egg conundrum. Without a good assessment of the condition of the building, anyone wanting to redevelop it FOR ANY PURPOSE is essentially buying a pig in a poke. Without any idea of what the ultimate purpose of the redevelopment might be, it is impossible to assess the amount of investment required. It would also be essential to understand what the NSCC decision to not take over the building was based on. | 1/5 | See previous comment. | 5/5 | By being more transparent than you have been to the present time and allowing a good cross section of community members to be involved in this process. Not telling the community who is on your Infrastructure Committee is not a good start to having community members trust you going forward. | Yes | By being on your Infrastructure Committee. | The MHACCCA is not a body elected by the community to represent it or to make decisions on its behalf. In fact, it has extremely poor representation from the community at large, or even its business community. May I suggest that this group needs to do some very heavy lifting and outreach to the actual community (not the usual cast of characters) before it purports to be acting on its behalf of this community? | Bruce | Manion | bpmconsulting@outlook.com | 0 |

4/5 | Emails, social media updates & occasional public meetings. | Yes | I would be involved. If there was housing initiatives, 100% would love to be involved. I could also be involved if there was community activities taking place, like music, recreation and so on. It is good to get the younger generation like myself, involved so we can be there to keep the ball rolling in the future. |

1/5 | The most important factor is for this facility to be sold so that the community is no longer responsible for the overhead costs. It has already sat vacant for too long. There should be a "for sale sign" slapped on it ASAP. | If this building were to remain open, it should be "revenue-generating" first. Once the costs are covered, then there should be a conversation about "what else" is needed. Having another facility that is dependent on government grants is not feasible. | 1/5 | It should be based on who is willing and able to cover the costs. | 1/5 | Unless they have the money to pay for it, the voice of the community is irrelevant. | Stop paying for consultants and reports. Make a decision and move on it. For every month that this building sits, it costs the taxpayer. It's not as if it hadn't been known for years that this building would become vacant. Yes, NSCC declined. At that point, the decision to sell should have been made. | ||||||

| 56 + | Musquodoboit Harbour | Resident | 5/5 | Given the size of the building it can be used for several things. Seniors housing, recreation services, educational needs such as continuing education, medical centre, entertainment venue. We have an opportunity to utilize a well maintained building and the possibilities are endless. As a growing community let's take advantage of this. | A section could have apartments for housing, the gym can be used for recreation and as an entertainment facility, we have no facilities at this time to use for this. There are classrooms that could be used for continuing education, day and night classes for subjects of interest to all ages, art classes. There would still be lots of space for a medical centre.
